Evanescence significa “que se dissolve”, “uma dissipação como o vapor”. Seu pronunciado correto é: Evan-ésens. E o símbolo dos Evanescence, é um símbolo transcrito (da antiga língua índia) pela letra "E".

A banda teve começo formado por dois integrantes, Amy Lee (Vocal - Piano) e Ben Moody (Bateria, baixo e arranjos eletrônicos) e umas das primeiras músicas que comporam foram as músicas Understanding e Give Unto Me. O primeiro show feito pela banda foi no Vino's em Little Rock/Estados Unidos.

Amy Lee por sua grandiosa voz já recebeu convites para fazer parte de trilhas sonoras de filme, que no qual fez parte da regravação da trilha sonora de O Estranho mundo de Jack (Nightmare before Christmas) e também chegou a participar do Acústico Mtv da banda Korn, cantando junto com eles umas das músicas de sucessos.
"Going Under" é a musica preferida de Amy Lee, segundo ela, a letra foi tirada depois de terminar uma relação muito e tormentosa e dolorosa pra ela...

Ao fazer a música single "Bring Me To Life", a cantora diz que a letra foi inspirada da relação em que teve com seu marido. No início era para se chamar "Wake Me Up Inside", mas não acabou sofrendo alteração.
A música "Hello" colocada no álbum "Fallen", segundo a cantora, foi feita para a sua irmã que faleceu quando criança. Tanto que, nunca foi tocada em show e até mesmo, a cantora queria que "Breath No More" ficasse no lugar dela.

Primeiro clipe da banda, Bring Me To Life, a Amy Lee já teve que pegar no pesado. Teve uma cena que a cantora teve que pular mais de 20 metros de altura para simular a queda em um prédio. Durante os ensaio, o seu ex-parceiro de grupo, Ben Moody participou também junto com ela o pulo. No clipe, o cantor da banda 12 Stones, marca a presença pois ele, foi conivdado a fazer parte do refrão da música lançada especialmente para o álbum Fallen. O Clipe foi feito na Romênia.
